Memorial Day is a day which has a remarkable story behind it, popularly known among the people earlier as Decoration Day aims in decorating the graves of the great soldiers. Calling this remarkable day as Decoration has a purpose because it is generally seen how government officials, as well as common people, decorate the graves with beautiful flowers and the national flag. It is a day that was inspired by the Southern states as in there the people honored their dead, the way they did it inspired the origination of a day called Memorial Day. This day got its remarkable presence when the Uniform Holidays Bill was passed in 1968 in order to create federal holidays as three-day weekends. It is officially celebrated at the last Monday of May, which again took some time for the Americans to understand and recognize.

With a tradition to fly the national flag at half-staff till noon, with a tradition among people to visit cemeteries, to be a part of the parades this day has become more like an occasion. People choose their own sets of activities to do so this day is like a reason for the Americans to celebrate the freedom, the hormonal peace and of course the weekend break which includes Monday as well. This day marks the start of the summer season so people don’t forget to enjoy by the beach, pool and short vacations to nearby resorts or towns with a beautiful location. Every year sharp at 3pm the entire nation stops whatever they have been doing and spends some time in remembering their fallen heroes in a way that without them nothing that is happening today would have been possible. The federal government declared Waterloo, New York as the birthplace of Memorial Day officially.
